Engagement opportunity: Child care services survey

Crestwood Community League

Jan 18, 2026

The City of Edmonton is seeking feedback on proposed changes to Zoning Bylaw regulations for child care services.

The proposed changes are intended to support more opportunities for child care in Edmonton.

Potential changes include:

  • Options to reduce the minimum pick-up and drop-off space requirement for child care services

  • Changing child care services from a discretionary use to a permitted use in 17 special area zones

A background report on these potential changes was presented at the June 17, 2025, Urban Planning Committee meeting (item 6.2).

The City of Edmonton is seeking feedback on these potential changes through a survey which will be open until February 4, 2026. Feedback will be considered at the ADVISE level of the City’s public engagement spectrum and will be used along with policy and technical data to inform Administration’s final recommendation to Council.

A summary of survey results will be shared with City Council prior to them making a decision on the proposed changes at a Public Hearing in the second quarter of 2026.
