Coronation Eco Station Closure

Crestwood Community League

Mar 18, 2026

The Coronation Eco Station is closing on March 31, 2026 and plans to re-open in Spring 2027.

Crestwood Community League has received the following information from the City of Edmonton regarding the upcoming closure of Coronation Eco Station.

Starting March 31, Coronation Eco Station will be closed for construction while the City works to upgrade the existing facility to serve Edmontonians better

  • During the closure, residents can drop-off recycling at recycling depots throughout the city. To find the closest recycling depot to you, visit edmonton.ca/RecyclingDepots.

  • The closest Eco Stations for residents to drop off hazardous waste, oversized items and yard waste are Kennedale (5355 127 Ave) and Strathcona (5150 99 Street).

  • Find local retailers that accept batteries and other e-waste at edmonton.ca/batteries/

  • Coronation Eco Station has not received significant updates in 25 years. Adding bins, more traffic controls and providing our staff with more capacity to safely serve Edmontonians will ensure this Eco Station location can continue to serve our communities well into the future.

  • Eco Stations served over 500,000 Edmontonians in 2025, with demand for drop-off services growing each year.

  • The City will once again be hosting Big Bin Events and free Eco Station weekends through the spring and summer. Details will be available soon at edmonton.ca/BigBinEvents.

  • Check out the Reuse Directory or Reuse Centre and see what items can have a second life! Reuse keeps valuable materials out of the landfill, saves money and helps support Edmontonians in need of second-hand items. From appliances and houseware, to tools and more, visit edmonton.ca/ReuseDirectory to find what you can donate.

Why is the Eco Station closing?

The Eco Station is closing in preparation for the start of on-site work for the Coronation Eco Station Expansion Project. This project will improve customer experience, help the facility keep up with current and future service demand, and bring it up to current building codes and City of Edmonton operational and sustainability policies.

What construction is being completed at the Eco Station?

The Coronation Eco Station Expansion Project involves the following:

  • Restructuring traffic flow and site layout, which will improve safety and efficiency for users and employees, while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions from vehicle idling.

  • Rehabilitation and expansion of the existing Eco Station building, including mechanical, electrical and structural upgrades.

  • Repurposing two existing garages to improve waste sorting.

  • Increasing the number of waste drop-off bins to improve service for residents.

  • Installing solar photovoltaic and energy-efficient systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions along with water and energy consumption.

  • Converting the decommissioned rail line at 143 Street, between 111 Avenue and 115 Avenue, into an access lane for drop-off bin service trucks.

When will Coronation Eco Station reopen?

The Coronation Eco Station is anticipated to reopen in spring 2027.

With the Coronation Eco Station closure there are now no convenient places to drop off recycling in the northwest side of the City. Does the City have any plans to improve access for residents in this area?

The City is working to increase the number of recycling depots residents have access to in northwest Edmonton. The closest recycling depots residents in the area have access to are Castledowns YMCA (113A Street - 153 Avenue), Callingwood (69 Avenue and 176 Street) and Woodcroft., and can visit any Eco Station in the City to drop off waste.  We will also be opening a new recycling depot at Woodcroft Community League in the near future to support residents in the area.

What should I do with my household hazardous waste during the closure?

The Kennedale Eco Station is most likely your closest option to drop off household hazardous waste. Check out edmonton.ca/EcoStations to find your nearest location. Please contact the city of Edmonton with any questions or concerns.
